LYDIA'S REGAL ROBE. Semievergreen
but leans toward dormancy. Early to midseason
blooms. 37”tall, 6”flower, three-way branching,
24 buds. Lydia’s Regal Robe has an alluring and beckoning
ivory edge on both its petals and sepals. Its color
is a combination of deep purple with a lovely overlay
of blue violet. It has a lighter shade of purple in its
eyezone, combined with a beautifying green throat.
We should recall that the diploid INDIAN GIVER
is only registered to be 20” tall, whereas LYDIA’S REGAL
ROBE is a full 37” tall. Also, the diploid INDIAN
GIVER flower is only 4.5” in circumference, but
LYDIA’S REGAL ROBE is a full 6” in circumference.
Truly this grand daylily is deserving of its name
which comes from the esteemed Biblical business
woman, Lydia, who was known by all for the high
quality of her purple cloth. Although LYDIA’S REGAL
ROBE has such a lush, deep color, it nevertheless
holds well in both hot sun and in the rain. At the end of
a hot day it still looks fresh. Pod and pollen fertile.
$150.00.

ENCHANTING SMILE. [Cane Creek Falls x (Panther Eyes x Crazy Ivan)]. Semievergreen.
Early to midseason blooms. 31” tall, 3 1/2”
flower, two way branching, 25 buds. I adore this little
beauty. It has a dark eye and then also a dark edge around
the edge of its sepals, along with a yellow self. Being married
to Diana for forty years continues to bring smiles to
my face. Indeed, it is Diana’s enchanting smile that causes
me to give this daylily its name. Pod and pollen fertile.
$75.00.

DIANA'S EVENING GOWN. Diana’s Pink Gown x Seedling). Dormant. Mid to late
season bloomer. 27” tall, 7” flower, three-way branching,
27 buds. Oh how gorgeous a surprise! Tremendous,
lush, stunningly beautiful, dream size seven inch
delight! How many times have you wanted to enter a “large” flower in a daylily show? I always do but seldom
do I have one that qualifies. DIANA’S EVENING
GOWN always qualifies. When you enter this beauty
you will have the best, big pink polychrome daylily that
exists, plus a tremendous ruffled gold edge. Diana and I
celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in 2009 and I
think of this when I see this grand daylily bloom. Pod
and pollen fertile. $150.00.

VARSITY ORANGE. (Summer Hymns x J. T. Davis). Dormant. Mid to late
season blooms. 31” tall, 6” flower, three way branching,
25 buds. Diana has always liked the orange ruffling on
this daylily and I also like the consistent, clean orange
color. The orange color seems even more intense in the
eyezone. I still remember when it first bloomed and it was
noticeable apart from all of the other orange seedlings. It
was distinctive. When I was very young I would go to the
Varsity Restaurant in Atlanta and I would always order
two chili dogs and a “varsity orange” drink. The color of
the varsity orange drink is much like the color of VARSITY
ORANGE. Pod and pollen fertile. $150.00.

MARIETTA FULL HOUSE. [(Kathleen Salter x Atlanta Full House) x Moment in
the Sun]. Dormant. Early blooms, 33” tall, 7”
flower, five way branching, 27 buds. When I first
started growing daylilies one of my favorites was Ms.
Petree’s ATLANTA FULL HOUSE. The color of
ATLANTA FULL HOUSE seemed to be the same
yellow color used by the Girl Scouts. So, I made
many crosses using ATLANTA FULL HOUSE as a
pollen parent. Finally, MARIETTA FULL HOUSE
was achieved. It has practically the same color, but is
a more brilliant yellow. Did I mention that MARIETTA
FULL HOUSE has five way branching? Pod
and pollen fertile. $100.00.

GRAPESICLE. (Kennesaw Mountain Darkness x Tet. Indian Giver). Dormant.
Early to midseason blooms. 33” tall, 5” flower,
three and four way branching, 28 buds. When GRAPESICLE
bloomed I was so thrilled because, again, I had good
success in using pollen from Tet. Indian Giver. GRAPESICLE
has a grape popsicle color along with a lavender edge
on both its petals and sepals. It has a watermark of lighter
purple. Its green eye enhances its purple colors. When I
was a child a truck would come through the neighborhood
and sell ice cream. I always liked the popsicles. So, I
decided to give the name GRAPESICLE to this lovely daylily.

CHILLED ORANGE SORBET. (Pastor Laurie Ann Moeller x Moment in the Sun).
Dormant. Early blooms. 24” tall, 6” flower, 3
way branching, 18 to 20 buds. This is a striking
flower, and the ridges on the petals make the flower
even more attractive. Also, when it appears in its
bud, several days before the bud blooms, there is a
lot of green color showing. Perhaps this means that
green color can be taken to the edge of the petals.
Also, I see green expanding from the throat across
the ridges on the petals. Pod and pollen fertile.
$100.00. |

WHITE AS SNOW. [Michael Miller x (Ed Brown x Tet. Dena Marie)].
Dormant. Mid season blooms. 24” tall, 7” flower,
3 way branching, 16 buds. Notably, Michael
Miller is a 6” flower, but WHITE AS SNOW is
every bit as white, and it is a 7” flower. When a
large flower blooms it always draws attention.
While we know that daylilies are not truly white,
WHITE AS SNOW nevertheless looks as white as
the snow that often covers our garden in the winter.
I like white. It’s clean. Wholesome. Pod and
pollen fertile. $100.00. |
